Tough Luck Lane is a fast paced character driven mystery/thriller. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Stacey Longacre- the "heroine" of the piece and also the narrator. She's a bare knuckled, no-holds-barred bartender settling into a new town with new friends and employment. The author leaks this character's well developed back story into the narrative at strategic moments. Combining detailed glimpses into her life (and that of the myriad of characters in "the compound") develops a personal investment and relationship with the reader. Stacey's well developed curiosity may well be the death of her, because as we know- sometimes ignorance truly is bliss. Several plot twists and a surprise (not the one I expected) betrayal spice up the tale. In conclusion, this is a great "beach-read" or better yet- a much needed reprieve from winter's doldrums.Product details

Tough Luck lane is an adorable, beach read mystery. The author wrote an engaging story, with well constructed sentences, that convey a lot in just a few words. The characters are interesting, and the plot moves along quickly. This was a book I looked forward to reading every day.
Well done, to a new author. I hope more books are on the way.

Perfect summer book to read by the pool or on the beach. If you’re not near one of them, you’ll wish you were after reading this fast-paced Florida-set novel
This mystery/thriller made me want to fly to Florida and go have a drink with Stacey. The book is an interesting, fun, and quick read. It’s great for a Sunday afternoon.
4.1 stars Tough Luck Lane is an off-beat story of a thirty year old woman, Stacey, who packs her bags and moves to a beach town where she works in bars and finds herself in a bit of trouble. It’s really a pretty good read and I enjoyed it.
Quirky characters, fun journey. The breezy tone took about a chapter to get used to, but once I did I was hooked. Solid voice and I was immersed in the Florida setting. This was off my usual beaten track of more mainstream mysteries (and scifi and fantasy) but I'm glad I took the detour.
I only made it to 33% before giving up and deleting the book. I tired of reading about how many beers the heroine drank in a day. If one removed all the dialogue regarding her drinking habits , her buzzes and her recovery, one would be hard pressed to have much of a book. It felt like I was reading the same thing over and over - she gets up, has a beer, goes to a diner for breakfast, goes out on some journey, has more beer, goes to a shoe shop, hangs out with her neighbors, has dinner and beer, goes out in the evening, has beer, puts on her sleepy tee and goes to bed. Wanted to like it but couldn't.
